We were super excited to collaborate with Loam magazine this month to design and create a custom letterpress field guide as a companion piece to their new issue, Permaculture in Practice. Loam, helmed by its amazing founder Kate, is an environmental arts magazine based in Boulder, Colorado, and is dedicated to promoting the work of pioneering individuals and organizations in the realm of sustainability.
Letterpress printed on a Vandercook SP15 press and hand-bound with a pamphlet stitch, The Chain Press x Loam field guide is designed and customized to help readers engage more deeply with the diverse DIY resources presented in the magazine, which include creating recipes for your own herbal vinegars, and DIY bundle dyeing using natural materials. Loam's new issue is visually stunning, with thought-provoking and action-inspiring content that made it a joy to create these guides and collaborate with an independent, female-led publication making waves in the sustainability movement. Our collaboration marks the first in Loam's ongoing series with makers who merge ecological sustainability and beauty in their approach to crafting functional art.
